Field Journal - Sunshine Beach
In this Field Journal episode, I head down to Sunshine Beach before sunrise with two very simple goals: take some photos and maybe catch a fish.
Naturally, I do neither particularly well.
After waking up at the deeply offensive hour of 2:45am, I make my way through the National Park with a camera, a fishing rod, coffee, breakfast, and just enough misplaced confidence to convince myself I know what good fishing conditions look like.
The light was beautiful, the ocean was angry, the rocks were slippery, and the fishing was — in the most generous possible terms — unsuccessful.
But that’s kind of the point.
This one is less about coming home with a hero image or a fish for dinner, and more about getting out of the house, flexing the creative muscle, and finding an excuse to spend a few hours in a place that makes you feel like you’re doing something worthwhile.
There are crashing waves, a few texture shots, some questionable decision-making, a turtle cameo, and a moment where I risk my dignity to retrieve a $25 lure from the rocks.
No fish were caught. No portfolio shots were made. But honestly, I’d still rather be doing this than sitting at a computer.
Thanks for watching.
